About NCTAN and NCTA
North Carolina Teaching Asia Network (NCTAN)
The National Consortium for Teaching about Asia (NCTA), funded by the Freeman Foundation, is a multi-year initiative to encourage and facilitate teaching and learning about Asia in world history, geography, social studies, and literature courses.
Launched in October 1998, this nationwide program is a collaboration of the East Asian Studies programs of five national institutions: The University of Washington's East Asia Resource Center, Indiana University's Asian Studies Program, Columbia University's East Asia Curriculum Project, and the Five College Center for East Asian Studies to undertake a national, multi-year initiative to encourage and facilitate curriculum improvement in Asian studies at the secondary level.
